Join the workforce while building foundations for your career in Bricklaying and Blocklaying with this apprenticeship

Whether you’re still in high school or in the workforce Gold Coast Trades College is flexible and will work with you, your employer and school to create a training program that suits your busy schedule.

Our school-based apprenticeship program allows you to jump start your bricklaying/blocklaying career, earn money and complete Year 12 all at once.

This qualification will provide you with skills and knowledge in a range of bricklaying/blocklaying competencies that will be customised to meet your training needs.

Subjects in this qualification include:

  • WHS requirements, policies and procedures
  • plan and organise work
  • use of bricklaying and blocklaying tools, equipment and materials
  • read and interpret plans
  • work effectively with others
  • conduct workplace communication
  • basic levelling procedures
  • erect and dismantle restricted height scaffolding
  • basic demolition
  • construction of:
    • masonry veneer
    • cavity brick
    • walls and corners
    • arches
    • curved walls
    • damp proof courses
    • fire rated masonry

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is available for experienced workers to gain a formal Certificate III in Bricklaying/Blocklaying qualification.

Career Outcomes

Graduates will be trade qualified in Bricklaying/Blocklaying and can progress onto other qualifications such as Certificate IV or Diploma in Building and Construction, or start a Master of Engineering (Structural Engineering) program.

The elective units are to be chosen as follows:

up to 2 units from Certificate III or IV qualifications in CPC08 or another current Training Package, provided the integrity of the AQF alignment is ensured, and they contribute to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome.

Some units in this qualification may have prerequisite requirements, which must be met when packaging the qualification. Users are referred to the list of CPC08 units with prerequisite unit requirements available in this Training Package for this purpose.
