This qualification provides the specialist skills needed to work safely and effectively in the automotive air conditioning and HVAC industry. Learners will gain:

  • Engine and Mechanical Foundations
    • Dismantle and assemble multi-cylinder four-stroke petrol engines
    • Remove and replace engine cylinder heads
    • Develop and carry out diagnostic test strategies
  • Air Conditioning and HVAC Specialisation
    • Install vehicle air conditioning systems
    • Service automotive air conditioning and HVAC systems
    • Diagnose and repair air conditioning and HVAC components

Course Overview

This AUR20220 Certificate II in Automotive Air Conditioning Technology  qualification provides the specialist skills needed to work safely and effectively in the automotive air conditioning and HVAC industry.

Learners will gain skills and knowledge in:

  • Air Conditioning and HVAC Specialisation

Duration: Typically 3 weeks full time, Monday to Friday
Delivery:  Structured training at our fully equipped workshops and campus

This qualification is designed to prepare students for work in automotive service and repair businesses, with a focus on climate control systems. Career opportunities may include:

  • Automotive air conditioning technician
  • Vehicle service assistant specialising in cooling/air systems
  • Trade assistant in automotive electrical and mechanical workshops

Graduates who obtain this qualification are eligible to apply for the Automotive Refrigerant Handling Licence (AAC02) issued by the Australian Refrigeration Council, enabling them to legally handle and service refrigerants in vehicles.

Study Pathways

After completing this course, students may:

  • Progress into an Automotive Apprenticeship such as:
    • Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology
    • Certificate III in Automotive Electrical Technology
    • Certificate III in Mobile Plant Technology
  • Specialise further in automotive electrical, mechanical, or HVAC fields through additional units or qualifications.

This course also strengthens employment pathways into the broader automotive industry, especially for those seeking to combine mechanical, electrical, and climate-control expertise.

Must not be enrolled in a Queensland Secondary School or program.
