Skills and Knowledge You Will Gain

This qualification provides learners with practical trade sampling experience across a range of construction areas. Students will develop essential safety knowledge, workplace practices, and hands-on skills in different trades. Key learning outcomes include:

  • Workplace Practices and Safety
    • Applying WHS requirements, policies and procedures in the construction industry
    • Working effectively and sustainably in a construction environment
    • Planning, organising, measuring and calculating to complete trade tasks accurately
  • Core Trade Skills
    • Carrying out a basic construction project from start to finish
    • Using trade-specific tools and equipment for wall and floor tiling, painting and decorating, and concreting
    • Handling and storing painting and decorating materials correctly
    • Applying basic levelling procedures on site
    • Working safely at heights
  • Practical Multi-Trade Exposure
    • Sampling skills across tiling, painting, concreting and general construction tasks
    • Gaining confidence with a variety of tools and materials used across the industry
    • Developing the teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills essential for construction work

Course Overview

The following entry requirements apply to ensure applicants are able to fully engage in the course and have the required learning capacity to meeting the course requirements.

Learners must:

  • have already completed their CPC10120 Certificate I in Construction
  • be currently enrolled in a QLD high school in year 10,11 or 12
  • meet the LLND requirements for the course
  • have a level of physical fitness to be able to handle construction tools, equipment and materials, work outside for long periods of time and climb ladders and scaffolding
  • be able to commit to the course duration and time commitment (including self paced study and homework)

Application for enrolment is subject to a review process that includes assessment against course-specific LLND requirements and a review of student academic reports, behavioural history and absentee levels. Students, their parents, and/or their School or Educational Institution may be contacted for clarification, or to request further information during the review process. Enrolments will not proceed without the support of the School or Educational Institution.

CPCCWHS2001 Apply WHS requirements, policies and procedures in the construction industry       

CPCCOM1012 Work effectively and sustainably in the construction industry

CPCCOM1013 Plan and organise work  

CPCCOM1015 Carry out measurements and calculations    

CPCCVE1011 Undertake a basic construction project 

Elective Units:

Students are required to complete 5 Elective units which will be tailored to each student based on the previous elective units completed in CPC10120 Certificate I Construction.

New programs commence each school term.

Pathways

Career Outcomes

This program is designed as an entry-level pathway into a wide range of building and construction trades. While it does not qualify students as tradespeople, it provides:

  • A stepping stone into apprenticeships such as:
    • Carpentry
    • Wall and Floor Tiling
    • Painting and Decorating
    • Concreting
  • Employment opportunities as a trade assistant, construction labourer or trainee while pursuing further training.

Study Pathways

Graduates of this qualification can:

  • Progress directly into a Certificate III trade apprenticeship in their chosen field of construction.
  • Use the course as a foundation for further study in specialist trades such as bricklaying, plastering, or roofing.
  • Build the core skills needed for other construction and civil infrastructure qualifications.
